Tomorrow night, I will present to the Springfield Public Schools Board what High Street does as a Partner in Education with Weller Elementary School. It is my privilege to do this and hopefully more churches will be inspired to be a part of the community. We are in our 5th year of providing food to kids who don’t get enough on the weekends. We currently provide 180 kids food twice a month. Last year, OneSolePurpose started with a burden to provide shoes for all the kids at Weller. 4 weeks later the money was completely raised. Over $9,000 to buy 325 pairs of Converse Chucks In the Fall of 2010, we started participating in “Lunch Buddies.” About 20 people from High Street go once a week and eat lunch with one child (and often more than one!). The goal is to provide adult encouragement and mentoring to help them succeed in school and life.
